Down the rabbit hole

Some goodies my mom and I got for coming early!

Today my mom and I visited the Yellow Rose Fiber Festival. It was, as usual, SO MUCH FUN!!!
It is safe to say that I have been (not-so-subtly) hinting at wanting to go all year long, and apparently, my family got the message! ;-)
I learned a lot about felting and spinning from watching some of the demonstrations and sneaking peaks at some classes, but I actualy learned the most form one of the vendors! I was dreaming about some dyed mohair locks she was selling when she started telling me about how to incorporate them into several different crafts. She even showed me how to make mohair-lock fringes with bias tape! Needless to say, I was sold on the idea, and so was a bag of raw mohair!

Smiling, she then directed me to her awesome discount bin, where I found this beautiful cone of 50% wool and 50% mohair yarn.

It, and a few of it's siblings, were in my shopping bag a few moments later.

Most of my money well spent, my mom and I cruised around the rest of the booths, and we found a few more things that we both liked. After we decide "who keeps what" I will post pictures of the rest of the goodies.

The little things

Today I found an Indian paintbrush in my backyard,

made these two baby hats for Threads of Love,

finished the fringe on this table runner for my bookshelf,

wound the rest of the sewing thread warp,

and added a couple rows to the Pleache't rug.

Nothing major, but sometimes the little things are the most fun.

Finished!

The edges are crocheted, ends sewn in, and all 348 fringes have been knotted. The tri-loom blanket is finished! This has been by far the largest triangle loom project I have ever done, coming in at 7' by  7' excluding fringes. I love how it turned out! The blanket is very soft, and I have been a bit tempted to claim it for myself. Unfortunately, so have the cats...

Yes I see you, and yes that still counts as on the blanket!

Ah kitties, they are just too cute to get mad at. However, the blanket is now safely on top of a shelf where they can not get to it... I think. My cats are little ninjas...
Anyway, since the blanket is done I have decided on my next project! I will be weaving a little drawstring pouch for my drop spindle. Seems easy right? Well, it would be if I weren't planning on weaving it with sewing thread.

I have never woven with such thin thread before, and honestly I am worried I will mess it all up.
But, if I don't try I will never know! So, for better or worse, I am off to the warping board!

On the Fringe

Yesterdays craft time was spent at the triangle loom. I finished the last few inches of weaving, and started on the fringe. I use a book to make fringes by wrapping yarn around it ,

 and then cutting the yarn using the space formed by the pages  between the front and back cover.

I might like fringes a little too much...

Perhaps this is not the fanciest way to make fringes, but it gets the job done! And the best thing is that once you are done using the book for every imaginable purpose it wasn't designed for, you can open it up, and read!

...or you can use it to press flowers.

And I'm weaving again!

I LOVE this pattern! It is simple enough for me to do while listening to an audiobook, but complicated enough to not get boring.
 Boredom is the enemy, and it is the fear of being bored that keeps me up at night... ahem... trying out some ideas... ahem. My Zodiac sign is an owl.

The bead loom was very busy.

First, I made this cute wrap-around bracelet to showcase some special red beads.

then I got funky with some fringes...

It is definitely safe to say that I had WAY too much fun!
