Experimenting with band weaving

I have recently been wanting to have a few new bookmarks because the summer reading program is starting soon, and I decided to weave my own! I decided to try a new technique called pick-up weaving and it was so much fun! The technique is a bit like counted cross stitch, you count the threads, pick up the ones marked on your pattern, and then hold them so they "float" over the rest of your work. By doing this the threads you choose stand out more and create the pattern! It is amazing how many patterns you can make, the sky is the limit! I made one long band as a "sampler", two bookmarks, and a little tab to sew onto a towel. I loved making these so much that I think I will make a few more!

Finished! (January, 15, 2015)

My first Danish Medallion towel is done, and I LOVE IT! This took me a long time to make. With learning how to do Danish Medallions, making a lot of mistakes and having to go back and fix them, and knoting the fringe by hand, this ended up taking me ten hours to make. But I think the results are well worth it! This will be a beautiful addition to our bathroom, and I love the feel of it, sturdy but not stiff. Just perfect! :-)  I also finished my first inkle band! I love the colors, and it is the perfect length for a sash. I enjoyed weaving on the inkle loom so much that I am already dreaming of what to weave on it next!

New year's resolutions

Hello! Just to stifle the (nonexistent) rumors, no I am not an alien, or no longer interested in weaving. I have just been working on non-weaving projects to sell during the holiday season. And on that note, yes my Etsy shop is empty! I will do my best to fix that problem as soon as possible. Now, on to my New year's resolutions:
1. Learn more about weaving.
2. Blog more about what I am learning!

This blog post is my first efforts towards keeping both resolutions.  Today I plunged into the land of inkle weaving! My mom and I recently acquired an inkle loom on Ebay, and I finally got to try it out today. I will be the first to admit that my band started waaaay to tight, then it got too loose, but I think now it is just right. (Why yes, I have been called Goldilocks, what does that have to do with weaving?) Anyway, I am glad to be weaving again!
